Novell and the Cloud: Novell Cloud Manager

Novell has started an extensive, quite attractive communication campaign on Cloud Computing projects. “Better late than never”.

In fact, it was to be expected given the solutions and products that Novell owns.

Novell is a fairly large brand, as we said, full of interesting products and solutions:

for the Datacenter, the Linux distribution SUSE Enterprise, which has always been one of the first versions (often even before RedHat) on which the latest releases of third-party products are tested and produced (for example, MySQL always starts with packages for SUSE). The Platespin (virtual machine migration, orchestration) product series.

for End-User Computing, the ZENWorks series (from application virtualization to patch management), products for conferencing, teaming and collaboration,

then there are security products and solutions, and finally OEM products such as SUSE Desktop, MeeGO, Appliance ToolKit and SUSE Studio.

Now as you can see in this very nice video:

Novell is dedicated to Cloud Computing anticipating what will be released later this year, Novell Cloud Manager

A product that seems to be very interesting, if we consider the concepts of workload provisioning, the self service provisioning interfaces, but many tools that Novell already has seem to be missing and we also do not share the current choice to control VMware’s hypervisors (latest) through the vCenter, it makes sense to create a management interface that abstracts from the hypervisor, creating its own Private Cloud solution, not a management that manages already existing and highly advanced management products. Brochure

Novell has the SUSE Appliance Toolkit and SUSE Studio, the Platespin suite and ZENWorks that could integrate and create an excellent and unique Cloud Management product, capable of interfacing with Private and Public Clouds with easy appliance exchanges and interoperability. We hope for a quick new more complete release.

However, congratulations to Novell for the care it continues to have on all its 360-degree solutions.
